- General Questions
- Does
my insurance cover my surgery? Most procedures offerred at SASG are covered by most insurance carriers.
Our staff will help determine before your surgery, unless it is a emergency, whether or not you are covered and will file
your claim for you with your insurance company.
- Do I have to have a referral
from my primary care physician to make an appointment? Most patients are referred from their doctor for
a particular problem, but, it is not absolutely necessary. Some insurances, however, require that patients see
specialists only after referral. Check with your insurance carrier for this information. Our office will
gladly help you coordinate this if needed, and we will communicate our findings and recommendations for your care to your
physician after your visit.
- What insurances are accepted at SASG? Almost
all insurances are accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid. If we do not take your insurance, we'll tell you before
anything is scheduled.
- I've never had surgery before, what happens?
After your surgery is scheduled, you will have an appointment with the anesthesia service at CRMC to make sure they know your
medical history as well as we do. Don't eat or drink anything the night before your surgery and make sure you have
someone to drive you home afterwards, unless your procedure requires an overnight stay in the hospital. The actual
surgery will be done under general anesthesia or a local anesthesia with sedation if needed. Either way, you should
be comfortable during the procedure. Wear loose clothing that is easy to get in and out of, as you will have to disrobe
and wear one of our hospital gowns for the procedure itself. You will receive specific instructions about how to care
for the surgical site the day of the procedure. Make sure you have someone with you to listen to instructions, because
you probably won't remember much after the surgery.
- I've heard there is
a pill prep for colonoscopy, do you offer it? Yes, but it's not our favorite. It is actually
42 pills, taken with 14 glasses of water. We usually use a Half-LytelyR prep, consisting of two to four laxative
pills followed by a half gallon of the prep fluid. This is the easiest prep to use and gives the best results, in our
opinion.
- About Us
- Where are you located? At 3004 2nd St SE, across from the Emergency Room at CRMC.
It's a concrete block building with a green metal roof.
- What are your hours?
Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm
- How do I pick which doctor to see?
Your doctor will help you with that decision when you are referred. If not, you can pick whomever you want to see, or
we can assign you to a doctor if you don't have a preference. Dr. Melton is the only one of our doctors that offers
the Lap-BandR.
- Do you communicate with my doctor?
Absolutely! We will make sure that your physician is informed as to our findings and opinions soon after your first
visit. Any procedures done at CRMC are also documented in your medical record and forwarded to your primary care doctor.
