Dr. Melton grew up in Valdosta,
GA and graduated from Lowndes High School in 1979. He earned a BS degree from Valdosta State University in 1983
and then his MD degree in 1987 from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed a residency in General Surgery at Methodist
Hospitals of Memphis in 1992. Dr. Melton practiced in Adel, GA for the first four years and then moved to Moultrie where
he joined Dr. Estes in forming SASG in May, 1996. He currently lives in Moultrie with his wife and their two daughters.
They attend First Presbyterian Church in Moultrie.

Dr. Melton was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1993, and recertified in 2003. He
is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, the Georgia Surgical Society, the American Medical Association, and several
other state and national organizations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Melton is currently
a member of the Colquitt County Hospital Authority and has served in numerous leadership positions on the medical staff in
Moultrie.

Dr. Melton has been interested in and involved with advanced laparoscopic procedures since residency.
He has completed advanced training courses in general laparoscopy, laparoscopic hernia repairs, anti-reflux surgery, laparoscopic
colon resections, and various laparoscopic bariatric(weight-loss)procedures. He started the Wound Care Center and,
recently, the Bariatric Center at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, and remains active in both areas at CRMC.
